Zastron Unity: Ex-Students
Zastron Unity is a group of ex-Lere la Thuto learners who are living in Cape Town. The group consists of people who are from different occupations, varying from security officers to managing directors of companies. They started to get together as Zastroners to support each other when they have funerals in Zastron that they want to attend.
One night when they had a gathering one person came up with the suggestion that they have to support the school that has given them the opportunity to be successful in life. They then decided that they will look for donors to help the school with study resources. They went out to find donors who will be willing to donate to a school in a small rural town in the Free State. They found Ithemba Labs who donated 50 scientific calculators to Lere La thuto trough the Zastron Unity group.
A delegation of 3 from Cape Town visited Zastron to hand the calculators to the school. The delegation consisted of Mr. Mothata, who matriculated in 1993, Mr. Diba, who left Lere La Thuto in 1993 for another school and Mr. Galawe who also left Lere La Thuto in 1991 for another school, The delegation had two interactions with the school. On Thursday 19 July they met the educators during break. The reunion with Mr. Busakwe and Miss Posholi, who were already educators at the school in 1991, was a wonderful occasion. Another interesting point that was discovered during the delegation’s visit is that 5 of the current educators were schooling at Lere La Thuto. On Friday 20 July the delegation came to hand the calculators to the school. Mrs. Salmon, SGB Chairperson received the calculators on behalf of the school from Zastron Unity. The calculators will be made available to learners taking Mathematics via a loan system.
The SGB and school are grateful that our ex-learners come forward with such initiatives to support the school and community. Thank you very much to the Zastron Unity and we hope that this is the start of more initiatives from other ex-learners of Lere La Thuto to help the school and community
